For my midterm project I created a hot air balloon. I focused on the lighting and also added a fire effect. I also added a little animation to it as well, making the balloon float off. The lighting however isn't quite how I wanted to come out. I still would need to tweak it more. I also wanted to add detail to the hot air balloon, such as ropes hanging off the basket and add different colors onto the balloon itself however I could not figure out how I would be able to accomplish that.To create the hot air balloon and basket I used the CV Curve Tool and Revolved it in Surfaces to create a symmetrical balance. As for the fire that comes out of the bottom I based what I did to create that off of the rocket ship tutorial (the Building a thruster light) in the Maya book. I first created a spot light and manipulated it to fit inside the bottom red part of the balloon. I then added the Light Fog in Light Effects to create the look of fire. I am not sure if I did it correctly but in the rendered view the fire does appear.
